This Cuban Exile 1 Peso is listed in Krause's 'Unusual World Coins'.
It is certainly very interesting,& very unusual.

I am totally surprised. Never thought i would see this coin listed.
I have 3 different proofs versions of this coin. This one shown here I have it classified as a Type 2 if smooth edge, There is a Type 3 with reeded vertical edge lines. Type 1 is very rare.
The type 2 has smooth edge polished
The type 3 has a reeded edge vertical lines classic edge.
The type 1 is the sore point. The edge is engraved with the legend "EN MEMORIA * LA BAHIA DE LOS COCHINOS 1961* 1965 *
This coin never made it to minting due to the poingent political protest message and resentment which is still alive today.
As far as I have been able to document the mold and coinage were struck at the Providence Mint. The original mold were from the 1897 and 1898 coinage of the 1 peso Souvenir Proofs . Look here http://coinsofcuba.com/index.php/cat...souvenir-pesos

Interesting, thanks for the info, Panamaguy! This coin was up for sale at Rosenblum Coins back in February of 2010. I'm sure it's sold by now.
