Notes and InformationThe 1943 over 2 overdate is the most popular Jefferson Nickel variety and even holds it's own slot in the NGC registry. Another of the dual-hubbing errors that seemed to pop up during both World Wars at the Mint, this is technically a Doubled Die Obverse as well as an overdate. The lower curve of the underdigit 2 is readily apparent under a glass, and doubling is visible on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. According to Fivaz and Stanton, the reverse is also a tripled die. The doubling is very evident on both the "G" and "D" in GOD and the under digit is evident in two places. The base of the two can be seen within the lower curve of the three and remnants of the diagonal extension of the two is also visible. This is important that both are evident because as Fivaz & Stanton report in THE CHERRYPICKER'S GUIDE, a 1943-P exists with a short diagonal die gouge extending from the lower tip of the three that can easily be mistaken for the overdate. FS-101, formerly FS-028, CONECA: 3-O-II+III+IV and NGC Variety Plus (VP-001).
