      This is an amazing currency token that you've got there.

      I can guess that it circulated as a 1 Cent coin.

      Aiden, sorry for the very late reply, I wasn't checking the gallery section each day. Yes, these coins did circulate in commerce. During the US Civil War all coinage was hoarded. Merchants were even unable to make change for purchases. To encourage business they contracted to have such tokens produced, they also advertised their business. The tokens were always taken back in future purchases. Many circulated within their community since the holder knew they could always redeem them for merchandise. The category for these advertising tokens is known as: Store Cards. The related category Patriot Tokens are from the same period, 1861-1865, and had some sort of partiotic message on them, they also circulated widely with a value of one cent.
