Hi rock, welcome to the forums!
Are you coins 'raw' or are they 'slabbed' (graded by a third party)?
If they are raw, make sure to hole the coin by the edges, and try to wear lint free gloves also when handling them.
For raw coins, also try to store them in 'coin safe' containers. These are plastics that do not contain chemicals that will damage the coins. Hard plastic ones are available at Coin Collecting Supplies, Coin Supplies, Coin Holders, Casino Chip Holders and work quite well. There are also plastic flip mylars. You can find a lot of supplies at the link I just gave you, but the more airtight, the better to prevent oxidation.
Humidity is one of the biggest factors of toning to coins, if you store them in a hot and humid area (such as a damp basement) you are more then likely to accelerate toning.
If you have no choice and they are stored in a more humid area then you'd like, I'd recommend picking up one of these:Eva-dry Renewable EDV-300/E-333 Wireless Mini Dehumidiferand/or Dry-Packs Indicating Moisture Absorbing 1 oz Packets (Qty 4) in Recloseable Moisture Barrier Bag - Silica Gel Desiccant!
.
As always, try to keep them locked up safe, at home, or preferably in a bank vault.
