Help - Collecting New Quarters VS Old Walking Liberties ??

I have recently been struggling with the idea of grabbing all the MS68 graded business strike (and already have the PR70 graded silver proofs) America The Beautiful Quarters i can get since they seem to be quite valuable already..(2010 MS68s are ranging from $250-$450 - 2010P YosemiteMS68 $450!!)
so i am wondering if anyone thinks that the 2011s and 2012s will reach those amounts as well.

i started out collecting coins only last year in February. I am finding it hard to be a smart, patient collector!
at first i was just buying "junk silver"..then thought i should work on a real collection, and traded in all the junk to work on my Walking Liberty collection.
and now i am stuck in the position where all the higher grade coins i still need are out of my pay range!

basically i am asking for opinions..should i just work on new coins, getting them now as they come out at the cheapest price they may ever be.. selling off my walking liberty collection to finance this effort. or do you think that in the long run, the walking liberty collection would have more strength even though those coins are not professionally graded.

    Hello and welcome aboard Dennis!

That is a tough call - is it financially not possible to pursue both options (kinda have the best of both worlds)?

I’d suggest you keep the Walking Liberties – if they are in good condition. Or else trade them for new quarters.

What gets your juices flowing the most? I know i will spend much more time and effort (and money) on coins that i really love than ones that are just collectable.

Peace and good luck - let us know what you decided!

While I am sure a collection of moderns will look nice, if you are doing it with the idea they will be worth more someday, I would caution you on that idea. With so, so many of these coins still in rolls, the graded population of these coins will only go up, therefore decreasing the value of those already graded. Of course that is just my opinion. I personally would go after the Walkers even if it takes you a long time.

I am not a fan of high graded modern coins and think there values are destined to go down since populations are basically guaranteed to increase. I am a big fan of graded Walking Liberty Half Dollars.

I'm too impatient to hang on to the newer ones, although I have saved a couple I have come across. I personally just like the nostalgia of collecting the older coins
