Newbie puzzled over lack of interest in Austrian gold coin
Okay, I'm a newbie, and I've been hoping to sell a couple of coins, notably a 4-ducat piece from 1900. I ventured to a big coin show here earlier in the year, but got misled with some not-exactly-real-offers, but was told that I should still be able to get something above the melt price, since the 1900 is better than the 1915 re-strikes.
However, although I was hoping to sell locally, although there are a lot of people claiming to be numismatists, they don't seem to have much interest in - and possibly not much knowledge of - anything other than American coins. Is that the norm? Or is Austria just a bad country to be stuck with?
